A reshare from a couple years ago, but sadly, it is a timeless share because it is a never ending struggle since the beginning of humankind.
————+++————
While this is not my experience now it was five months ago, and for the entire decade before that. It is also a present day experience for too many suffering souls, as most of you know by now. You see, time can stand still when we are looking into the eyes of temptation- for anyone, but for us addicts that moment can suspend itself in a dizzy obsession where we’ll either sell ourselves a beautifully gift wrapped box full of justified lies, or we will choose to toss the delusion right back into those raging flames. And trust me, those flames are fierce, for it is sheer torture for a human being to wrestle with a demon we KNOW will take our lives, in some form or another, yet nobody forced us into the ring. It can be terrifying when trying to tip the scales from one DEFINITE and pleasurable “high” against one thousand POSSIBLE devastating consequences, because it is our very lives that hang in that balance.
Nonetheless, this is not as easy as one might think. It may seem like the obvious “choice” to most people. I mean who in their right mind would “choose” to dive into the ring with an undefeated opponent AFTER revealing all of their secrets and vulnerabilities marked by the wounds in their minds and the scars on their bodies rendered by previous battles? No one in their “right” mind would. That’s why some of us are “addicts” and some are not, and the stigma encompassing “addiction” is not helping the many of us dying in that ring, surrounded by too many judges and jurors who are sadly surprised when that unsuspecting fatal punch steals the last breath from our cold blue lips. The struggle is not only “real,” friends. It is becoming more prevalent and more deadly with every passing day.
Thanks for letting me share.
