The trick for me is to NOT want to drink MORE than I want to drink. I truly don’t think stress makes me drink. It does make me drink more? I just like the buzz. I have to want what sobriety gives me MORE than I like the high. I have to learn how to enjoy real life and people. I feel that finding interest and friends and nature will give me that. I have to remember how BAD alcohol destroys my health my life and my relationships and takes all my money! It is gonna be a daily journey to NOT let the lie convince me “It’s ok. You can have a few”. NOT.
There ya go. Admitting this is the beginning of the struggle for a new life. Good for you. Keep positive. Only gets better.
Sounds like you have been doing some research! You basically summed up what recovery is all about. Putting down the drink is the beginning. If we want to stay stopped, we need to do just as you say…learn to enjoy real life and people. We need to change our stinking thinking. There’s a great book I recommend called A New Pair Of Glasses by Chuck Chamberlain.
That’s the key! Finding a life that is better (it always is, I swear), than when we were drinking. The mind clarity is one of my favorite parts of sobriety. I was often in a haze when I was still drinking regularly. Now my mind is always clear and I always can get a grip on reality. You got this! Just take it slowly.
I will look for it. Thanks
I agree with Jenn. Mental clarity is a high for me! You will get where you want to be

It really is as simple as you say, but tough at the same time. You can't ever have that first drink because it tricks you into the next. Life is so much better with a clear head.
I know you can do this.
Go to meetings .get out of your self.
“Pray” to have it removed.
Keep all that in mind next time you think you can “have a few” …alcoholism is the only disease that tells us “we got this” you don’t hear cancer patients saying I got this I can skip my medicine, that’s why reminders are key to stay sober just for today
