The way of AA was scary at first but I was desperate enough to try anything.
Amen to that brother. Thank you so much for sharing. I love your coffee cup.
Despite the serenity prayer being, well a religious prayer, if I drop the "god" and say it like a mantra, it becomes just that, a mantra. An affirmation or reminder on how to handle things on the fly, in the moment, throughout the day. That, I can dig.
I understand. I chose to call God the Creator. And the creator knows you have doubts and you’re not wrong for that. If that is the way you can say it and it makes a good difference, that’s all you need.
I really fkn hate when people say things like "He believes in you even if you don't believe in him". Its condescening nonsense.
Your way is not THE way. It is A way. Your way, for YOU. It works for you and that's cool. Whatever it takes to make you less of a threat to anyone else's happiness and well being.
When I mention agnostic or secular stuff on this platform, it is so that people who are struggling with things they may not belive in can find a path without having a religious conversion. There religious hardliners are always proselytizing and I know it is difficult to navigate for those of us who don't subscribe.
When I came to AA I was blocked from getting sober. Once I conceded to that fact, that I was blocked and needed help to quit alcohol, I became unblocked.
Then I came to the God concept. I was totally blocked but, doing the 12 steps unblocked me. That is my experience.
As for those who are in AA and choose not to believe, that is their right and yes you can find great people in those kinds of meetings, as well. I wish all the best to anyone getting sober.
