The workings of the alcoholic mind

As I received my 2 year coin last night, I made a rookie mistake. I got up front and completely forgot to introduce myself and identify as an alcoholic. A group member promptly reminded me “who are you?” This is what happened inside my head. Monkey #1 said “well, I don’t know!” Monkey #2 said “didn’t you hear the nice lady say my name when I was called up? I saw you clapping. What’s the matter with you? Monkey #3 said “how dare you embarrass me in front of all these people, this is my moment. My time, me, me, me and I am going to put sugar in your gas tank for this humiliation you have caused me. Monkey #4 said, “ how could I forget my name, I knew it when the nice lady called me up here, did I leave it under my chair? Did I drop it on the way over here? Monkey #5 said “ Lie Dammit, save yourself! They are starting to stare!”This all happened from the time he asked to the time I was able to remember and identify myself. It is so important that we identify and remind ourselves by admitting we’re alcoholics. I realize that WE have to remind ourselves and each other to identify everyday because the alcoholic mind loves to omit and forget. Step one, WE admitted that we are alcoholics. We get/stay sober. So important. That’s the working of the mind of an alcoholic.

Yes, monkey 3 usually led during my active days because he asserts himself a bit more. He’s also the toughest to turn off. Lol

Never been a big fan of the Monkees , although I know the drummer that played with one of the original band members on their last tour. Oh, wrong Monkees. Congratulations anyway!!!!

Graig, congratulations on 2 years and 4 days

Congrats on the anniversary. You do you!
Nothing wrong with monkeys or supposed mistakes. Nothing worse than getting called out in what is supposed to be a safe place.

At least the monkeys are off your back. Congrats on the 2

Good stuff bud, I too have to remind myself regularly that I'm an Alcoholic. Because as soon as I forget that I'm Alcoholic the voice in my head will say Eff It I'm am ALCOHOLIC, I drink, this is what I do.
So many paradoxes in recovery, but I kinda dig them.
