Thinking about cutting way back on sugar

Anyone else done this? Benefits? Drawbacks? What do you think?

Sugar is the enemy. We do need some for brain function but overall sugar is bad. You’ll lose weight, feel better, and just overall better health. It’s a win/win

I struggle hard after giving up the booze…. Sugar has definitely replaced it but I’m adjusting slowly

Just did a 30 day alternating fast (odd days I ate clean food, even days I did a fast with supplements as a 300 calorie meal replacement, and no sugar the whole month); went down 19 lbs. Works very well for cleaning out your system if you have a sweet tooth like myself.

I have to eat 500 calories 2x a day or a medication I take won't absorb right so that wouldn't work for me. Glad it helped you though!

Roger dodger, always stick to a meal plan that goes in line with whatever your doctor says regarding meds, but in regard to the sugar, it feels good not to have it for 30 days. Actually changes what I’m hungry for; instead of craving a snickers, I’ve been craving a peanut butter and honey sandwich today.

That's great!

My biggest culprit is soda- I have less than a 12 pack left and I'm not buying any more after that. I put my sweet treats away for my kids to have when they visit. Only thing I won't give up is creamer in my coffee- can't stand it without it. But that's 1 cup a day and that would be the bulk of my sugar intake.

I wish you the best of luck ! :muscle: I have been struggling with a sugar addiction my whole life. As a child growing up I would eat 2 scoops of ice cream almost every night and if it wasn’t ice cream it was some kind of dessert. If i don’t eat chocolate after a meal something feels off. It’s just wrong to not have a little chocolate after dinner. I love smoothies, all carbs, chocolate anything lol, toast and cream cheese, cereal and you get it Im addicted to sugar. I eat chocolate waffles with fruit every single morning and I’ve been doing this for YEARS. My whole diet is sugar cos I eat a ton of pasta (with butter) and carbs turn into sugar. There’s sugar in sooooo much food.
Sugar makes you bloated, if you eat too much you can develop diabetes, higher blood pressure and many other negative health effects.
More power to you !! I know how hard it is to cut out sugar. Sugar is a monster. I hope you win the battle against sugar. We are both strong enough to quit- it’s definitely mind over matter. One day at a time. The longer you go without it the less you’ll crave it too. Also the longer you go you won’t be used to the taste and if you eat a piece of candy it will taste overly sweet. Keep us updated!!! Good luck :four_leaf_clover::muscle:

That’s a fantastic start !!! Good luck :four_leaf_clover: One day at a time. Be easy on yourself ! Stay strong :muscle:

If you're talking about table sugar. Toss it it's garbage. It has no nutritive value. You will feel unbelievably better all way round

Table sugar, added sugars in foods, and sweets like soda and candy.

I'm borderline eating disorder. I'm a yo-yo-er with my weight.
Sugar is added to most anything in a package. No exaggeration. It adversely affects everything in your body. Blood sugar spikes effect mood, energy everything. You pretty much have to prep everything from scratch. That's what makes it hard. The food industry has the salt, sugar and fat mixture down to a science to keep you addicted really. I hope that helped. Prayers always :pray::sunflower:

There isn't enough room on this app to list all the benefits of cutting refined sugars out.

Complex carbs in moderation are your friend though.

Overconsumption of sugar can prolong acute withdrawal symptoms.

I'm 4 years sober so no worries about that happening
