This april will be 11 years sober. I was heavy into putting heroin up my nose, popping oc 80s like they were skittles, smokin crack. I would still go to work, paychecks would be gas money and drugs.
When I found out I was going to have a daughter it was like a switch flipped, and I went into recovery right away. She probably saved my life, I was EXHAUSTED, worrying each day if I would be able to find something the next day so I could go to work without getting sick.
It did a number on my body, but I don't regret any of it. When I was a kid we had the DARE program, who said just say NO lol. They never explained WHY other than drugs are bad. Now I'm equipped with the knowledge and stories to pass onto my daughter, so she can know the horror that comes along with it, not just a simple "its bad' .
