This disease runs deep

I got sober on zoom and did that for a while then I relapsed and decided I was going to get more serious about my sobriety. I got a sponsor, I follow suggestions, and now I go to in-person meetings. My sponsor suggested I network with more people in meetings. I finally got to hang out with some of the other young folks at the meetings I’ve been attending and I was so excited. They were so welcoming and nice but for some reason I felt myself retreating, getting fearful about being judged or not being able to be myself. After beating myself up a bit about having these feelings, I realized it’s just my disease trying to pull me back into isolation and misery. I can’t let this thing win. And for today I’m so grateful I had a meeting, a network, and a fellowship to lean on.

I too tend to isolate myself when depressed and I am codependent as well as alcoholic sometimes I need to be alone and yet there is a fine line I can’t always know when isolation becomes part of the problem. I have learned I am probably dealing with ADHD too. I’m too old to physically feel hyperactive but my brain is still all over the place.

I don't think Zoom meetings would've helped me either, the in person connections, for me have been the most helpful part of all the meetings.
