This has been an incredibly tough year with many ups and downs. I started my alcohol free journey on 1/1 and went over 6 months without a drink. I thought I had finally gotten to a place where I could reintroduce small amounts of alcohol in to my life. I was doing incredibly well at work and I had just purchased a house (I firmly believe if I had been drinking I wouldn’t have had the focus and ambition to go through the process). I slowly started to justify that I had put in the hard work and deserved to be able to have one from time to time. Things were ok for a little while. Fast forward to end of August, less than three months after closing on my home. Hurricane Henri completely flooded the first floor. Needless to say I was angry and frustrated and quickly let alcohol be my coping mechanism. So here I was trying to deal with a major disaster while drinking. Happily allowing my brain to justify that this was a good solution to the problem. Wrong. Happy to report, though, that I’m back on the wagon and feeling good. Just had back surgery and this additional curve ball is not going to lure me in to the justification to drink. Really appreciate this forum. You all inspire me to keep going.
