This is a question for those with ADHD or any other "disorder". So, I have ADHD, PTSD from military, Depression, and Social Anxiety, and have traits of BPD. (I promise, I act normal for the most part around people lol)
My question is, does anyone take medication for their "disorder" and notice that you suddenly get the urge to drink alcohol or energy drinks?? I used to take Adderall when I was stationed overseas and man.... It made my alcoholism WAY worse. Got off of it for a few months, came home from the Army, then got on another ADHD med, then BOOM excessive drinking. So, I flushed them away over a week ago. (Yes, I feel fine without the meds :metal:)

Long story short..(Sorry), ADHD meds always gave me the urge to drink, but I never feel that way with my anxiety/mood medication.

Does anyone else who is/was medicated for a "disorder" ever get those strong cravings??

I have ADHD and take Adderall,I never noticed it making me drink more or more excessively,if I don't take it,I can't concentrate on doing anything!

Yeah if you’re taking adhd I think those pills are straight amphetamine I don’t know if yours are, I used to be a pill popper and dr manipulator so I don’t have adhd but I convinced a psychiatrist that I had it. Lol it was a phase I went thru cuz I am also an addict. I wasn’t drinking when I took those pills because I was on probation for dui. But I would imagine they could do that. See I couldn’t drink but I could have prescriptions in my system. THANK GOD THE WHOLE THING IS OVER I AM ONE YEAR CLEAN AND SOBER
There’s a medication to ease the cravings of alcohol called Naltrexone it works for many or the doc gave me that, to see how I felt then I could get the vivitrol shot which lasts a month.
You have to talk to a doctor. Mine was a doc in my rehab. Good luck.

Yes it definitely does I take adderall now and I am on methadone and I feel like sometimes it gives you nervous :grimacing: the after affects but yes I have gone through the same before going on methadone with that and other things but good luck, and hey if you feel good without them than you don’t need them :wink::grinning:

I have adhd, complex ptsd from finding my brother dead, and high functioning bpd and I take Paxil and prasozin! I don’t take adderal or anything like that due to my psychiatrist saying it could cause that! I also took naltrexone for a little bit to reduce alcohol cravings!

I drink so much more when I'm taking meds. I'm diagnosed bipolar and adhd. I've tried every med in the book it feels like and they all made me super impulsive and I just wanted to drink alllll the time. Now that I'm off meds completely I can go a couple weeks without even thinking about alcohol. I still want to go sober though, because even if I don't drink often, I'm still not good at it. I go on 2 day benders every time I drink 🥲

Yes it does. I was on it for 12 years. I have been off Adderall for 14 months and off alcohol for 8 months. I tried to quit drinking for years while I was on Adderall and never could stop. You’re not imagining it.
