You are only 4 months in. Give it time. I thought the same thing when I was still new in sobriety. Now I have just as much or more fun at BBQs.

Maybe you just don't like bbqs? There is nothing wrong with that.

There is nothing ridiculous about not being able to drink. What ridiculous is the bs we tell ourselves to justify drinking, after all the damage it causes in our lives. Looking back now, I can see a trail of destruction that I never would have equated with my drinking.

I love being able to enjoy more food at a BBQ because the booze isn’t completing for stomach space.

Alcohol doesn't make it more fun.

3 days ago you were craving what gives about BBQ being stupid because you can't drink.
You can drink if you want to start from scratch again.
Your choice

Thanks All. I’m good now I talked to my sponsor. You’re right it is a choice and I’m choosing not to get high or drunk because I want a better life and I just have to put more space between me and using. Anyway I’m good now, it passed, gonna watch a movie. Thanks again

I'm very happy for you. I'm sorry for coming down on you. I tell it the way I see it without sugar coating.
I know you can and will do this. Best of luck reach out anytime

Nah it was perfect thank you

Play the scene forward. What happens if you pick up a drink? You might feel good for a short period of time but when you wake up, you'll be right back where you were before you picked up that drink and then you'll have to start all over again.

I've never heard anyone who relapsed say that things got better. Always worse and they had much more guilt the next morning.

In Alcoholics Anonymous we call this the Insidious cycle of insanity. Quality sobriety takes time. You didn't get this way overnight and you won't get better overnight. Just don't drink for today.
One day at a time.

Just fast forward one day when you feel like this. I am almost 7 months sober. Yesterday I wanted to get into my husbands whiskey bottle. Pause, then rethought about what the consequences would be like. So many ppl would have felt very badly about my choice if I had picked up. Yes it is hard staying sober. All of us wished we were normal drinkers. The reality is that we are not.

I mean, you CAN drink, right? You've just realized that you shouldn't.

We have a BLAST down her in OC Orange County, CA
Get to know some people, you’ll make true friends for life. As long as they are invested personally in the program!steps, sponsor, helping others, and going to meetings!!

Not if you’re an alcoholic, please read, The doctors opinion in The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous!!

That is the chapter that really woke me up. Men and women drink essentially because they like the effect produced by alcohol.

I think the same things at times. But when I get there and I talk and laugh and hang with my friends, when I leave and go home I do not have to feel guilty. do not have to worry about what I said or how I acted. I feel so good! Actually I get so very happy about myself because I could do it without drinking.
