Starting over on day one yet again. This has been a battle for me for 4 years now. Any tips on making it easier? Thanks!
You may have heard these suggestions before, but maybe hearing about my own experience can help you. It's important to find a sponsor, work through the steps, attend meetings, live a life focused on recovery, and read recovery literature. You have to truly want to stay clean and committed to the process. I was clean for six years, but I became complacent and stopped putting in the effort. This led to a relapse and now I am facing dire consequences. It's clear that my desire to stay clean was not as strong as my desire to get high. Recovery cannot be a part-time commitment, it must be a full-time dedication.
I’m losing my home, my wife and my animals, secondary to this last relapse. I’m just now completing a 90 day inpatient program at the Augusta Georgia VA Medical Center. I don’t have a home to go home to. I’m renting a room with a Dr, an airbnb month-to-month. It’s depressing. I will not use todays. Using is what got me here. Best of luck to you..
One day at a time
Tell yourself that you're a chronic pursuer of recovery instead of a chronic relapser. If you believe you're a chronic relapser you'll continue being one. Get involved with fellowship outside the halls.. get to know and hang out with the winners in recovery that are working a strong program. Go to recovery events. There's lots of fun to be had in recovery. Stay connected. Get rid of the old people, places and things and make new ones.
Surrender. I am powerless over alcohol. Dont drink go to meetings READ the big book until it makes sense! Do the steps and have faith. It will get better one day at a time.
Try going to A.A. or NA. Depending on your problem.
Day 5! And hows your thinking
One thing that has helped me at times is realizing that alcohol has no benefit for me. I mean, it just tears us down, either a little or a lot. We can't build muscle from alcohol, it's just a poison that our bodies immediately have to purge.
Have a Plan, People that actively support you and some kind of Program. AA and NA are great but it's not for everyone
Surrender
I suggest trying the NewForm app! It has helped me so much in my recovery journey (on Memorial Day I’ll have 18 months)! NewForm hosts so many virtual and in-person meetings ranging from exercise to art to music to recovery focused meetings! The opposite of addiction is connection!
