This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. But if I don’t stop drinking I’m going to lose my family. I’m so scared of failing.
If its hard, that means you're serious, which is a good thing. Dint yhink about the hard, the about how amazing you feel, how amazing tomorrow will be, and even MORE amazing the next...if you weren't scared of failing you wouldn't be human. But you should also be excited about succeeding!
I have been where you are, unfortunately I did loose my family. The pain was unbearable but by the grace of God that is what gave me the strength to do what I had to do. To be given the opportunity to rebuild those relationships is amazing and enough to keep going on my sober journey.
Recovery is a full time job. Gotta want it. Using wants to steal everything you care about from you.
Hey Nikki! Most of us have been where you are. I hear the fear and desperation in your words. Thinking about failing can be so paralyzing. I suggest you try and only think about today. Think about not drinking today. Can you not drink today? The saying one day at a time became famous for this exact circumstance. Let’s just worry about today. I suggest you find support (AA or another daily program) to help you navigate sobriety. This is not something you should do alone. We do this together. It’s been proven over and over again, that a daily program with support are key ingredients to sobriety. Let’s commit to today.
The fear of failure is a big roadblock to success. Failure happens. Hiccups happen. The thing to fear is not the bruised ego or the embarrassment of a slip. The thing to fear is not getting back up when you do. Real failure is giving up. You can do this.
