Update since Ive been off the app for a bit and I had great friends on here. I hope I find you again!
Last weekend was my first camping trip AF!
I was terrified because I had never been out for the weekend without grabbing a bottle or two and some beers... I started counting how many times I was craving alcohol that trip..
Saturday morning my husband and I went to grab some groceries and I remember being alone near the energy drinks. Knowing my husband was on the complete other side of the building AND the alcohol was right in the asle next to me. I started to worry that I would just be craving the drink so bad that I wouldnt be able to enjoy my time..
As soon as we left town, the only thing that went through my head about alcohol was "Wow! im so glad Im sober for this!" the whole rest of the weekend. We went on a great two and a half hour hike. Found some abandoned structures that made for a fun exploration day. We had coffee in the tent looking out at the water.. It was amazing. I was terrified for nothing! It was so nice to pack everything in and out with no stumbling, there was 0 vomiting that trip lol, and I REMEMBERED EVERYTHING!
It took me a little while to get settled and comfortable once we got there but after that, I didnt crave a drink again the rest of the weekend. I had thought my addiction ruined camping for me. The thing I loved doing the most. nope, Im slowly taking the things I love back for myself!
Medical update because I am so THANKFUL!
Ive had stomach issues for the past 5 years. The addiction made it worse and I figured once I quit, My body would start to heal? I am so exhausted from having this pain and discomfort every single moment of my life. I FINALLY worked up the courage to go in and seek help for it because I was worried whatever it was, was going to kill me one day.
Physician started ordering tests, Insurance didnt like the order in which she submitted the tests so they denied testing that could have really helped figure out what Im dealing with. Then I was just referred to a specialist. the Physician had given me the wrong number to call for the specialist so I wasted a month and a half trying to call and schedule an appointment with the wrong department.
I finally get the courage to make all my phone calls today ( i have horrible anxiety. especially on the phone) and they call back within a few minutes to schedule a procedure. I was NOT expecting that. I figured I would drive two hours away for the first initial appointment and THEN I could start getting tests/procedures started. I am overjoyed that in just two weeks, I will hopefully have answers!!!!!!!!!
One step at a MFckin time! 74 days sober, interviews for a second job, new (to me) car, a raise at work and my health is getting back on track! I would not/could not have done all of this for myself this time last year. Im realizing I dont miss alcohol like I thought I did... Im too happy with how my life is going in the moment. Im still cautious because I know how alcohol can be and that not every day will be like today was. But my life is going too well without it.. Im not giving up everything I worked so hard for in the past 7 months for.
