so i am working on 7 months clean and i know i have to give myself some time before i get into a relationship , i'd say a year at minimum , but i want to hear others thoughts on if casual hooking up is okay or not because i'm having a hard time deciphering what to do tbh
While I was drinking I casually hooked up with too many people. I mastered the art of emotionlessly sleeping with people and then I got sober. I think it’s part of my recovery to value my body more and only accept what I deserve. I am not a guy and realize y’all’s needs are different, but personally I think focusing on your recovery for a year or longer, completing the 12 steps (or whatever program you’re doing) and building a solid foundation for your life should be the priority. Distracting yourself with intimacy seems dumb. But that’s me. I think you should be more disciplined.
thank you
I’m also 40 and wanna start acting my age. Not acting like I did in my 20’s.
i'm 23 lol
Clearly we are human and have needs. It’s all about rigorous honesty and the mind set that we do anything possible not to hurt people anymore. I’d suggest that full communication of what the exact nature of the relationship is and will be before going any further could be helpful. I’d suggest against any totally random hookup, that’s old behavior and bro…. We love ourselves now and should take sexual health as a factor
I also suggest to wait a year ish and have done the steps. At the end of the day be safe, don’t break hearts, be forthcoming, make sure complete consent about the type of relationship is achieved and stay sober and safe.
thank you
Makes total sense. You do you.
