Three years… wow. I’d share a bit on how I did it. I went in to sobriety completely broken and willing to do anything it took despite thoughts or opinions on the different options I had for help. Yes I had several options and opinions of them. I felt that was the first gift of my bottom was my thoughts, opinions, beliefs, actions, and about everything else were at least not working for me, if not just plain wrong. My options locally were outpatient and AA. So I did both, and was willing to go to inpatient if needed. I heard that if you went to 90 meetings in 90 days it raised the success rate up 30 percent. I did that and more. I loved outpatient also but did not identify with their group setting. I sat for the first month in AA meetings pouring my heart out on the table. It set me free to change my life. I started to like the meetings and the new friends I was making, so I kept going back. I read the books and identified that sponcor that would lead me through the steps would not kill me. I did that to the best of my ability, I’ll be…..they also did great things in my life, notably a way to handle life’s curveballs. It worked. I knew I had suffered a lot of trauma in my life and was mentally fit to face them so I found ACA, why not🤷♂️ the other 12 steps seemed to do the trick so I worked those steps, they also worked to take the weight and control off my trauma I suffered in childhood. Between the two programs I slowly have been able to relinquish most things I can’t control and be able to keep myself in check. During the entire process, I vowed to not pick up until I go to a sobriety appointment or meeting and if I did pick up, it would be right after the meeting was over. I have not had to do that yet, haven’t heard a good reason too in any recovery based meeting I’ve attended. So, that’s a tid bit of my story that I give to you all on this milestone day for me. Remember, having long term sobriety is easy, don’t drink and don’t die, Creating a great sober life is where some form of program of recovery comes in, if your sober and miserable your not doing it right, that’s a word from my sponcor. 24 more.
Thank you. Been an interesting, hard, fun, life changing, heartbreaking, best thing I’ve ever done journey.
Thanks for the inspiration, nice job!
This is awesome. Thank you for sharing and good work!! Everything you’re earning now is because of your efforts, which makes it soooo much more sweet.
Great to see your accomplishments. Thank you for sharing how you did it. That is always the most interesting and inspirational part.
I was sober and miserable for 15months and sure enough I caved…. This time around I’m looking for other ways as well as support from AA and therapy … great job Brian
Thank you for sharing! Giving us newbies some hope and inspiration.
That’s amazing!! It’s crazy what can happen if you just do it. Truly work the program and begin to enjoy the good stuff life has to offer instead of trying to just continuously try to suppress the past.
Amazing what happens when you are willing to go to any lengths to achieve sobriety. Willingness, humility and honesty. If you can nail those 3 you’re destined for success!!
Congratulations brother and here’s to 3 years and 1 day
Thank you friend!! Laying it all down is what it takes for sure.
