Time will heal but it will never let you forget. I've been coming to AA for almost a year and four months. My last drink was almost 6 months ago and what I have learned is, exactly what I said in the opening sentence. As an alcoholic I have created mini apocalypses in my life where I have pushed the ones who loved me away. The person who saw the good in me and knew I could be kind. I allowed my selfish habits to come before them and then lie; when all they wanted was the truth. I know my wrongs now and would do anything to erase all the bad times. But, time will not allow you OR the other person to forget. There's things in life where a sincere apology and asking for acceptance of your faults, don't matter and can't be fixed. Coming to realize that and being sober for the impact it came with, is very hard to handle. My first instinct is looking to numb it to forget and put in on the shelf until later. But I'm able to stop now before it gets there.. It's because I know the outcome and where I'm standing; is a whole lot better where that will take me. And, that's the only way you can look back at time and smile, knowing you made a change. Own the day don't let it own you.

Give it some more time. Living amends take a while. They are the hardest kind. We have to be patient and not expect too much too quickly. With each day we gain credibility in our sobriety. Hang in there bud. You’re still changing. Still evolving. I’m still evolving too. We can shine in our recovery.
