Used to lean on booze to be more sociable. I find myself locking up a bit more with little to talk about. Any tips on how to overcome this? All I can think of is work.
Hi Shane,
I'm trying to figure out what you mean by "more talkative" but I'd say, 1) place yourself in an environment you're comfortable in. 2) at least enjoy the company your with/if going alone try striking up a conversation with someone-- read your audience. 3) don't force it. I honestly think that if you're comfortable in your own skin, everything else will just come naturally. I know that
look- but you'd be surprised. If you exude how you feel about yourself on the inside, people will wanna gravitate towards that energy. Trial and error without overthinking it. Meh
The funny thing is even when I feel like myself I just lock up at the end of the day. Maybe I need more hobbies.
Hobbies are always nice, I did that first. Hone in on what you enjoy doing. Preferably alone to begin with and then try and find a social setting that offers that hobby? ie: art class, music lessons, gym etc. You'll find your niche
Structured socializing is super helpful for me as far as working on my ‘talking with people” muscle. Things like a game night, where you’re actually doing something and then talking AROUND the activity (board game, bowling, billiards, cooking night, etc). Hobbies are, of course, an excellent way to do it if there’s something in particular you already enjoy doing!
