Tired all the time

I’m almost a month sober, I’d say my sleep has gotten a little better, I don’t wake up at 3:00am anymore but I am so tired all the time!

I sleep very deeply, which is new, when I wake up I feel heavy and in a fog.

I’m consistently getting up at 6:30 which is great, I get about 7-9hrs.

I wonder if this is my body recovering?

Your body (and your mind) are most certainly recovering. Your body is used to a much different chemical balance and it will take time to adjust. After all, you have been pumping a depressant into yourself for an extended period of time!

It will get better with time. You may want to consider some other changes that may help like going for a walk early in the day to get yourself moving. It might help with the foggy feeling. Also try to drink more water to flush out your system.

Couldn’t have said it better TJ, also great ideas. Taking a cool shower, drinking some water and yoga is what helped me in early recovery to get moving in the morning, still with a good sleep routine and keep it consistent. Once your mind and body have healed, it’ll get better.

I went through that too Katie. My first month sober I couldn’t get enough sleep and was tired allll the time. Definitely just your body and mind adjusting to being sober. It will get better I promise

Ahh the “lump on a bed” stage as my wife called it. Yeah I think we all went through something like that. It will get better.

11 months in and my sleep is still a mess. I’ve learned to accept it

This is so very normal! You got this! Stay strong!

It’s normal, your body and mind will adjust. When I was drinking I only got 4.5 to 5.5 hours of sleep a night. I think that was how long it took for the alcohol content to get down to a level in my body that made it want more and woke me up! Once I stopped I was sleeping 10-12 hours a night, lol and now I’m on about 8 and still like to sneak in a siesta in the after noon! All good:muscle:t3::call_me_hand:t3::v:t3::sunglasses:

Pray, exercise, stay in the program, work with sponsor, read the big book and exercise, and more exercise that works for me only a suggestion

It’s called Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS). It can take some time and is very normal. Took me a few months to get my energy back. Sleepiness, mood swings, weird food cravings will all happen. It sucks, but you gotta ride it out and be patient with yourself. Don’t push yourself too hard and listen to your body. It’s going threw a big change, but it is SO worth it!! Keep reaching out when you need.

Are you taking vitamins? B complex should help with energy  it's worth a try

I agree with this. Previously, I quit drinking for 3 years and I was a straight up nightmare grouch for about 6 months. It sucked :joy: but then I leveled out and all was good

Definitely. I can relate. Keep a regular consistent routine around sleep and that should help a bit! It will keep getting more in a rhythm.

You your body has probably been tired for a long time. You just haven't realized it because you've been pouring alcohol into your system and so nothing about you has been right. Now that you're sober you will start to feel things all over again. Some things will be good and some things may not feel so good. But after a while it all balances out. That's one of the reasons that we all drink is because we like the way it makes us feel and we don't have to think about how bad we really feel. We simply cover it up with another drink.

I had that too! I’m now at 60 days and it’s gotten much better. I still have my days but overall things are evening out

Wait til you see how good you feel after 6 months; 1 year

Yes it is.

It improves with time try to help by getting to bed around the same time every night the more of a routine you have the easier for your body to adjust.
