To those who’ve managed to get long streaks going. Say more than 90 days. How do you manage it? As someone who is addicted to cocaine. I get whiffs of it every now in there. Either at work due to the chemicals. Or randomly. And my body tensed up then wants it. How do I overcome that?
Time clean. That’s how. Find a mantra, or saying you can use to redirect your thoughts. Addiction isn’t the DOC, it is our brain just trying to take control. You are stronger than the pull man. Keep your head up!
When the “pull” happens how do I resist it? How do I take control?
I try to find a different activity that brings me actual joy instead of a temporary high. Do you have any healthy hobbies? I usually will find a plant that needs some tending to, or pieces of junk to turn into art, or practice an instrument. Maybe start with taking a brisk walk to resist the pull?
I can not explain how, only you can do it. Like I said make a call to a friend or sponsor. Find that will deep within yourself to not give in. Go to a meeting.
It goes away in time. I understand that chemical smell you’re talking about, it’ll get your heart racing and remind you of calling your old dealer…it’s a craving and it’s natural…the fact that you’re recognizing it is a good step. Find a way to change your state of mind…go for a walk, listen to music, pray…anything that takes your mind off the craving…once you quite focusing on the craving it’ll go away.
It does go away with time but that doesn't help when you're about to crawl out of your skin. And this is going to sound a little crazy but open the Bible and start reading wherever you open just start reading. And start praying and asking God with all your heart and meaning it to take the sickness from you. And he will if you really really mean it. And I felt the moment but my heart turned and I no longer wanted to lie to myself or anybody else about my addiction and it was all God
Now it's a matter of self-respect and self-love I cannot disappoint myself my God for those who have looked up to me ever again
As of rn not any! I have invested in a boxing set up so I need to start using that. I’ve just been feeling so tired and unmotivated. Idk why. Not sure if it’s just the period of being 9 days clean or what.
I would like to start reading too
I have started to pray and read daily devotions. Also, attending NA 3x/week. But yeah it’s hard to avoid the smell when I work around chemicals.
Happy to be dodging the call to relapse tho
I have started to ask for help! I do feel a change. I do daily devotions with my son before he goes to school. So, that helps so much!
I want to start reading the Bible but everything I open it idk I get intimidated but the size or just the activity of reading cause I have a pile of books that I’d like to read but keep putting off
Yes!
I keep thinking how I don’t want to go through the coke down ever again
