Today I’m going to DR on a business trip but the people in meeting up are heavy drinkers. I know they are going to greet me with bottles of alcohol and want to party with me. It’s the first time I’m trying to not drink on the trip. I’m kinda nervous. Just looking for some support while I’m out there !
You can do it, Christian! It might be easiest just to explain to people you aren’t drinking to remove the pressure. If you are concerned about telling your co-workers for fear of judgement, maybe just use dry January as the reason why. I’ve been there before and I just elect to remove myself from situations as soon as I know the ‘party’ is about to begin. Head back to the room, watch a movie, go to the gym, find someone else there who isn’t drinking. You can do this, bro!
Thank you . Yeah it’s going to be weird for them to see me not to drink I can already feel the pressure . But your right ima just go do somthing els when they start drinking.
Hey Christian! Congrats on two weeks sober!! I’ve been on many business trips in my time, and I can relate to your uneasiness. Ray has a good suggestion regarding a possible excuse for not drinking. Another excuse you could use is that you had a recent issue with your liver, and your Dr said you can’t drink for a month. Either way, I also think you should address this the first night and stick with it the entire time you are there. There are zoom AA meetings that you can access at any time for support. We are also here to listen if you need us. You can do this. Pray for some strength and courage to do the right thing.
I all way go to a meeting be for being a round drinkers.it helps .be there for the business.then leave.
