Today marks 3 years without any alcohol. Three years without waking up without knowing what happened the night before, three years without the fear and anxiety, three years of being present with the people around me. I wouldn’t trade my sobriety for anything, and I have worked harder for it than I have for anything else in my life. For the newcomer, find some things that work for you, and stick to them, reach out when you feel wobbly (there’s no shame in a little wobble), and always put your sobriety first. Every year I get a tattoo to celebrate my Soberversary, this is the one I got this year. The poem and drawing are from Rupi Kaur. Her poetry has gotten me through many dark nights.

JENN!!!!! no way! I knew we were bound to be friends! I ADORE RUPI AND HAVE THE SAME TATTOO. IN THE SAME PLACE!!! and we both have 3 years this october !!! A Phoenix (like an angry bad ass one) on the outside of my right forearm. It will have an AA and Krav Maga medallions hanging from its talon. I can’t wait.:slightly_smiling_face:

For my one year I got a half sleeve on that arm that is a tangle of roots (the roots of my sobriety/recovery) tearing through the skin of my shoulder and running down my arm.

Ooo! The Phoenix is a cool idea! For my first year I got a teetotaler symbol, my second year I got a thestral from Harry Potter.

I woke up one day and was just done, six years prior I was in AA, so for this time around I wanted something different. I created my own program, got plugged in on sober social media, listened to sobriety podcasts, read quit lit. I just kept making staying sober the most important thing to me. Now I’m an active member in The Luckiest Club, here, still listen to sober podcasts, read quit lit, and therapy.
