Today’s s’posed to be my day off. But my boss went and scheduled a department meeting for this afternoon, and told me I must attend, either in person or virtually.

I will be attending virtually, because it’s humid AF and I don’t feel like going into Manhattan just for a one hour meeting.

And I will be putting forth the idea of bringing a writing program into the facility for the residents, because on Saturday I spoke with my coordinator (who brought in a music program) about how writing has helped me in my recovery from…well, y’know. And it has.

It’s my psychiatrist who made me start writing in the first place, as part of something called dialectical behavioral therapy. Dialectical behavioral therapy, for those of you who don’t know, is a kind of torturous process, that my masochistic self responds very well to, and I’m thrilled that I get to pay it forward.

Thanks for sharing your journey! Zoom meetings do come in handy at times! As for the topic of your post, I just did a writing assignment last night that my therapist gave me as homework. I had to write a letter to my dad. I’m no spring chicken, so I had to go thru 57 years of ups and downs. My appointment is tonight, so I had been procrastinating writing this letter all week. That alone is stressful lol. I did discover that i did feel a bit lighter, and gained much clarity from the assignment. Keep up the great work Cara!!

One of the letters I had to write was to my maternal grandfather (who has been dead since ‘99) and writing that letter really helped me get my anger at him (he raped me when I was a child) out of my system.

I’ve heard you share a little about that before. You have done some serious work and healing! To be able to share about it is so powerful! You have no idea how many people you are helping. Our traumas can turn into our greatest gifts. Keep sharing the message. We do recover :peace_symbol::heart:

So I am so curious to know how your idea regarding bringing in the writing program was received, Cara?

You are an inspiration ( which is an understatement )!

It was received well.
