Today started off great! I was out and about with my sober fellow enjoying the Saturday sun , then I was hit with triggering situations and my anxiety completely took over. Ended my day scared and full of fear at home. I’m really starting to see the struggle in recovery. Now that I that this pink cloud is starting to lift and reality is setting in and I don’t know if I can handle the pressure. Of day to day activities. Or triggers. I feel really defeated today. I didn’t pick up tho, so that’s where I’m at today.

Hey Dylan! Don’t get down on yourself. You’re doing exactly what you need to do. Your learning to live thru the ups and downs of the day without using. To quote you “I didn’t pick up tho”. Great job
Thank you

Happens to all of us at one point or another. I spent an entire weekend at home once because it was the only thing I knew to do that was safe. It sucks but we grow and learn from those experiences.
I’m getting panic attacks now. Anyone else??

My therapist is having me tap the tops of my fingers with my thumb every chance I get…starting with five minutes, but literally conditioning myself to do it as much as possible. It’s supposed to calm me. I’ve forgotten lately!!
The fact that you didn’t pick up after the triggers is an accomplishment on its own. Those triggers will have less of an effect on you as time goes by. There was music I couldn’t listen to a year ago, but now I’m able to listen to it and I’m fine without any urges. Time really does heal all wounds. When I have anxiety I noticed it’s my body/minds way of telling me to move and be active. Run or lift to help release endorphins that will naturally calm you down. Also try to stay hydrated and eat clean when you can. You don’t want your heart to work harder than it needs to! Also try to read more. I noticed my anxiety diminished and I became more focused when I replaced Netflix with reading. Your brain wants to learn and it wants to retain information. Give it what it wants!
Life on life’s terms man. A friend said to me once, “ sometimes you are the pidgin sometimes you are the statue” triggers and anxiety happen, you had the good sense to not pick up and reach out! That’s amazing, and proof it’s working! Great job.
Thank you
What Joe wrote resonates with me. These basics: plenty of exercise, healthy eating, hydration, distractions for the mind (reading), can help us all stay calm and sober.
Hey buddy anyway you didn’t use is a good day. Life has its ups and downs if ur clean or not there is going to be struggles. I get peace from my higher power! That’s the only reason I’m clean and the only reason I’m still on this earth! God is so good man. Congrats on making it through a tough day and staying clean!
