Today would have been my three year sober date. On

Today would have been my three year sober date. On July 10th last year I had a three day lapse on drinking and found out I was having a heart attack that I brushed off as withdrawals from my binge. I have been sober since. I dont like to believe that July 13th 2021 is my new sober date because I didnt unlearn anything those two years before of being clean. But every tells me (courts/lawyers) I cant see my son unsupervised because I’m only a year in recovery. I was a gallon a day vodka drinker. I didnt function. I didnt work. I just wanted to die. Now, I own a restaurant, we have vacation rental properties that I manage and run. And we have a fully operational farm. I’ve gone fully Holistic and all natural on anything that goes into my body. I get no credit on how far I’ve come. I’m still an addict. I am still defined by my past mistakes.

You know the truth. The outside world continues to judge us unfairly, as they just will never understand. However, we understand you. We recognize how far you have come along in your journey. I suppose this is the part of the “program” where you just have to let go and trust that things will all work out ok. Find some comfort thru the recovery tools you have (prayer, meditation, sharing with others like you’re doing here, meetings, journaling etc). I think it’s amazing that you have 3 years of sobriety with only a few days of drinking! Chin up, chest out, and find some gratitude for all the blessings you have in your life:pray::peace_symbol:❤‍🩹

I keep in mind that I have the experience strength and hope of my prior sober time. It may help someone else who is struggling in the same way. I find being of service in and out of the rooms is helpful. I try to disregard what others think and feel, I just do the next right indicated thing. HP has the rest.

Hey. Can I reach out to you regarding your post? Family mater wise.

This is an amazing comeback story! Love it.

Courts are brutal and too rigid…but those are the rules and we have to live with the choices we make. Congrats on the amazing work you’ve put in, you know the work you’ve put in and that’s all that should matter.

We don’t take anyones opinions with us when we leave this world. Screw what everyone else thinks. You know how far you have come. That’s all that matters. You will be able to see your son unsupervised in time. It will work out even if the courts are delaying you a bit.

Yes you can

Oh man I’m so sorry for this. I hate that other peoples opinion of you can really effect how your life can turn out

I’m sorry I’m in such a similar situation

Keep up the good work and HP will take care of the rest.

I had an alcohol heart attack at 44.
