tonight i am debating myself on this question - do i continue to do something that on the surface appears to be productive and “normal” (even thought my gut instinct says it’s a waste of time) or do i jump off the edge of the cliff and force my wings to flap?

has anyone had to ask themselves a similar question? i think i’m about to take another leap of faith. this refusal to give in to addiction truly is bringing out my courage these days…and my honesty.

Some times we have to force ourselves out of a comfort zone to grow. Remember that a bonsai tree would be a normal tree if the gardener had planted it in the ground. Remember too that sometimes, we gain value by being kept in a comfort zone. Like the same binsai that could be a mighty tree but gains value from the careful management of a gardener. I cannot tell you to take the leap of faith since I don't know your exact situation. I would seek out someone you know and trust to give you that advice.

Absolutely. That’s what I think is at the root of recovery is being brave and actually acting on good decisions and learning how to incorporate them into our daily lives... Pray for decernment and if you’re working a program -don’t let go of your higher power! You’re becoming a better human
*remember to look at both sides of the picture before you jump and without future tripping be ready for the worst ( just in case) because you don’t want a bad decision to lead you to feeling emotions that you aren’t ready to take on.
It looks like you already know this anyway… good job on your recovery!

Our thought-life will be placed on a much higher plane when our thinking is cleared of wrong motives. In thinking about our day we may face indecision. We may not be able to determine which course to take. Here we ask God for inspiration, an INTUITIVE thought or a decision.

Maybe your 'gut feeling' is your higher power...

But I personally struggle with hearing my higher power in the form of instinct.

i have read through all of these comments again. so insightful, i’m just humbled at the brilliance that human beings are capable of. i would like to thank everyone for posting on here. what i came to realize is that i don’t actually have to make any major decisions yet. how amazingly fortunate is that. truly i feel lucky to be sober and healthy right now. every day at the end before i sleep, i’m on this app and it’s the perfect programming to help me realize the amazingness our species is capable of to one another. wishing everyone peace and joy! :v::heart:

One of my favorite recovery quotes - “Do what you’ve always done and you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” or “Nothing changes if nothing changes.” Doing what I’ve always done has gotten me drunk and miserable. I’m taking risks, taking chances (for me) and it feels good. It might not always be successful, but it’s always a learning experience. I’m tired of being “comfortable.” It’s not good enough anymore!

Sometimes appearance of productivity isn’t factual. I had a busy who would make big fast movements when he was in a hurry, but he was making 5 moves to every 1 that was needed. It actually slowed him down. Recovery would be the same. Figure out the goal. Then work backwards in the fewest steps.

awesome wisdom Aaron. thank you for sharing this. today i am thinking about where i want to get. i’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what’s in front of me, but without proper vision, its more difficult to steer the course. i think i see what you are saying.

Looking down the road a ways is often the best way to overcome obstacles. Just remember the titanic could have avoided the iceberg if they could have seen it from a distance.
