Tonight it feels like I'm the only person on the planet who's feeling lonely and lost. I miss the people my addiction drove away, while missing the sense of comfort my addiction offered me in return for losing friends. It's such a double-edged sword, man. I've been sober for a little over a year, and it's the quiet nights alone that are the hardest.

I know I am dangerous when I'm alone. I isolate and shoot dope twenty-four hours a day. Once I put any mood altering substance in my body, I can't stop for anyone or anything. I got a little less time than you. But I've been taught by my sponsor what will keep me sober because he has alot of time not being sober and a good amount of time being sober. So he told me how he does it...

He went to a meeting and asked for help. He got a sponsor who he could believe anything he said. His words carried weight and depth. He called his sponsor every day. He went a meeting every day. He spent an hour a week with his sponsor where his sponsor read to him the blue book and explained it to him. He had to sponsor others when the time came for him to pass his knowledge to the next alcoholic. He commits at least one hour per week to carry the message into detox, rehabs, jail, and prisons. He put his sobriety above everything else as without you will loose everything at some point. Then he has a shot of staying sober. I would try to spend more time on your sobriety plan and everything else will work out. You gotta be uncomfortable and spend a fraction of the time you spent in your addiction on your sobriety. It is hard work and so much easier to not stay sober. But I can't keep living like I did in my addiction and I have to come to a point that I don't want to die. Sober life is definitely foreign but not that bad...

Good evening Jenn !!!! I understand how you feel being the only person on the planet lonely and lost. I’ve been sober for quite a few years. I feel the same way. Lonely and lost. But I can’t let my demon come back and take over. Because if I do I’m as good as dead. You’ve come a long way do you wanna go back to your addiction. Because of the people you lost. Do you think they were your friends. I don’t think they were. They were there with you using whatever your drug of choice was. When I first get into recovery I heard from so many people did you have to change people places and things in order to stay sober. If you hang around with the same old crowd you’re going to get the same old results. You’ll never be clean and sober until you let them go. And you feel lonely and lost because you don’t have them in your life anymore. Go to meetings you’ll find new friends people that care about you. Trust me they do care about you. The ones that you were using with could care less about you. I know I found out the hard way. I was married for 23 years lost my wife four years ago that’s why I feel lonely and lost. If that’s OK I’ll get over it sooner or later. Hopefully sooner than later. Just keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll be OK talk about it. Find friends people little help you.If you have no faith I have faith in you because you’ve done this a year already.

Just remember there’s somebody out there for everybody maybe not today maybe not tomorrow it’s someday. Don’t worry about tomorrow because we only have for today

Well said! I’m glad to hear the message tonight!
Help others…. Work the steps… learn the program. Love it!

Calling another alcoholic, gets me out of my head!!:slightly_smiling_face:

What the hell everyone is feeling lonely after quitting drinking. I’ve been drinking a lot for 20 years and smoking a lot for 20 years.
I’m on 43 days not smoking that was tough to get to this point but the thought of giving up drinking is tougher. And the fact that it is making you lonely says I will keep drinking

I can imagine how hard it is

When I drive I smoke cigs

Now I freak out and reach for some Nicorette gum but I only chew gum when I drive now and no more patch

Hey Jenn, how are things going?

I feel like every 3 months there’s a battle then comes a blessing!
