If you keep visiting the barber shop, eventually you'll get a haircut.
Good luck with that.

More than once I picked up a six pack of na beer and a handle of bourbon so be careful

But I have found NA. beer is helpful in that it allows me to at least hold something in my hands and makes cravings a little less. You can get better NA drinks on line without the temptation

Keep up the good work

NA wine is just grape juice

Why temp faith.

Alcohol isn’t the problem, it’s the solution. My thinking is my problem. AA is the solution to my Thinking problem.

Hey Kevin. My situation is unique i think. Something tragic has caused me to have a strong aversion to alcohol....I feel sick at the thought of consumption. BUT before the event I enjoyed my craft beers and wine and cheese as a hobby...it's nice to know that I can avoid drinking ethanol while not having to give up a Hobbie. I don't think this will be an appropriate solution for everyone but it's working for me so far.

I know some folks that like NA beer when out at a restaurant and see that it’s a growing movement. Not for me at this time, but I see it

I thought about the NA stuff but afraid to try it. I'm still looking for something to replace alchohol for those times I would reach for a drink. I didn't overly like beer but used to make my own wine and was getting good at it. Who knows maybe I'll learn how to make the non stuff. Not rightnow though

All our situations are tragic. Change is what sobriety is all about. I’ve had long periods of sobriety in past and always think I can enjoy things I use to do. ie dancing in clubs and drinking cokes. This is my last run. From here until death it’s sobriety. One other thing as food for thought, the word BUT means anything said before it is negated. Just saying. It sucks having to give up things we use to do that seemed fun. Yet, this is a deadly disease which has to be constantly fought. I choose sobriety over past joys which can sneak up and take me down that dark slope. And your situation is not unique. None of us in sobriety are unique. It’s why we need each other to remind us of all our similarities.

Everyone owns their sobriety in a unique way. My addiction is whiskey. I enjoy NA beers and there are quite a few good ones out there. I’m confident enough in my sobriety that this will not trigger me. Enjoy life and stay healthy.
One day at a time!

Well, I’m just old school recovery. Gotta learn to tone it down some. My bad. I remember back in the day addicts would get into near beer and we’d all freak out on them. Been at this recovery since early 80’s and have always jumped into it full bore. Just know this disease always is waiting in the shadows for an opening. All cracks and crevices sealed for me this time around. God beat me up pretty bad this time around. Threw in the towel. He wins. Things are pretty bad right now. This pandemic has devastated in person meetings. My area is doing its best to combine zoom with in person and it’s a very slow process. A lot of folks are suffering out there and I’m not one to use a soft glove to pamper others into sobriety. This is a deadly disease that is constantly trying find ways to kill. Vigilance is the only way for me to live sober.

If I ever tire of NA iced coffee and NA topo chico I may have to give it a try.

Very impressive restraint. Couldn't do it myself but glad that you are able to. Stay strong my friend

Would not recommend any thing like that for a year.or at all.

It’s a road to no where . Don’t do it!

Addiction is in the parking lot doing push-ups right now. Glad you’re staying just as strong and never loosing sight of what you need to do to remain sober

Good forum!! I could see how NA could lead to temptation. Better to be safe than sorry, in my view. This disease is not something to take chances with!

Good morning everyone,

I have to say Laurie, I was one of those drunks that went down this road as well (to this day, you will not catch me drinking an O'Douls :face_vomiting:). And yeah, I was one of those that relapsed when I got tired of the tea-totalling BS I BELIEVED that I was putting myself through. But when I finally committed to sobriety in 05/2008, this was one of the first conversations I had with my sponsor. When I asked about this, he said, "Whatever floats your boat; if you think you can handle it, GO FOR IT"!
At this time, I was still in the financial services industry, but not as involved as when I was active. So one night, after a long, 1 hour train commute home, I wanted to stop in for a quick drink (But again, NO F%&KING O' DOULS!!)! SO! I had a ginger ale, which was ok, then I went home. This went on for about a month, then one night, I was angry & exhausted because I got into with my boss about a trade for a client (which he later apologized became was wrong). Anyway, there I was at the bar, getting my usual ginger ale, but I wanted a scotch. Then I started to remember the story in the AA Big Book about the Salesman & the Glass of Milk. WHEN I REALIZED WHAT I WAS DOING, I IDENTIFIED that I'm still "one sick puppy". A month later, I was diagnosed as a Type 2 Diabetic (another story, another time), so between that story in the BIG BOOK & my medical condition, HP basically convinced me NOT TO EVEN THINK ABOUT TAKING A DRINK! But that's MY EXPERIENCE with this question; the lesson I pass on to anybody is simply, "KNOW WHERE YOU ARE & KNOW WHAT THE F%#K YOU'RE DOING"!!! Be careful.
