Triggers and Sabotage

Does anyone else have someone who wants and tries to sabotage their sobriety? How do you deal with them trying to trigger you purposely early in recovery? I don’t mean how do you deal with them. How do you deal with how you feel? Before you have gotten to the necessary step work?

Exactly what you’re doing. Consult a fellow recovering alcoholic. 1 time I took a newcomer to a sober paintballing event and when I drove him home, he tried to get me to do drugs. He tried to tell me I think about using when I’m alone. I said no, I think about cars, girls, and recovery.

Toxic is toxic. I make sure nothing get in between my recovery and myself. I just ended a four year relationship in order to maintain my sobriety. It hurts like crazy but it isn’t worth the pain and unmanageability of relapse. Stay strong and go to a meeting. Get a sponsor if you don’t have one already.

Well, one of the things you cannot change that have to accept is others' response to your sobriety. Some people want to watch you fall and hate success when others find it. Although it's easier said than done, you have to realize all you can control is how you respond to it, and do your best to ignore them- their unwillingness to watch you better yourself is a flaw in them, not you.

Yes I came to the same conclusion. I need to ask God for the strength to ignore this persons attempts because I cannot control them. I have done what I can possibly do otherwise. Separated myself physically, blocked. Go to meetings and hang out with other AA members. He’s relentless but I’m determined
