Trust me, it gets better!

On day 424 and trust me, it gets better! I started this journey two days after Christmas a little over a year ago - failing out of college, no job, losing all my friends, about to get kicked of out my house (have since reestablished and strengthened my relationship with my parents to a level that never would have been possible had I not gotten sober), and hoping that every single night, I would drink enough so that I wouldn’t wake up. Today I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, have a meaningful job that I love, exercise every day, cook, am able to get out of bed and actually FACE the day - all at 22, without needing to rely on alcohol or drugs to get by the bad days or the challenges. I owe it all to my sobriety and the people I’ve been lucky enough to come across and stick by as I’ve pursued this new, originally daunting way of life. It hasn’t always been easy, but the single piece of advice is STICK WITH IT! If anyone is around the Boston area and needs info on meetings or just needs someone to talk to, please message me!

I’ve struggled with self-confidence and self-worth for as long as I can remember, and one of the countless gifts this program (I use AA primarily out of convenience, but am a fan / practicer of pretty much everything out there) is a renewed sense of what I have to give to others. In my first couple months of sobriety, I would never have had the courage or self-acceptance needed to make a post like this - now, I have the confidence and willingness to make myself available to ANYONE who needs help, someone to listen, give advice or kind words - PLEASE reach out if you’re wondering if you’re in the right place, or need a word of encouragement!
