Trying new methods of recovery

Sobriety has given me courage I never had as an alcoholic. 14 months sober, I attended my first AA meeting tonight.

I’m so grateful for the community and how kind and welcoming they were.

Hey, congrats!
What did you think of your first meeting? Lead or discussion?

That's great to hear. Question: do you think your opinion of meetings and/or what was being said would be very different had to been much earlier in recovery or just starting g out?

How it go

Hey Taylor! Thank you for asking! I enjoyed the atmosphere, it was a discussion meeting so lots of cross talk. Everyone was very welcoming. It was a secular meeting as well, so it eased my worry over not being able to relate to the conversation.

I absolutely think it would have been different and I likely would have retreated with my tail between my legs LOL I was not ready for the serious accountability from a community aspect of recovery in the beginning. I was, however, looking for self-accountability in the beginning, so I sought out individual therapy with a counselor who is certified in substance abuse at 3 months sober, and that helped she’s helped me gain confidence in many areas of my life, my sobriety included.

Hi Nikki! It was rewarding. I actually cried for a bit afterwards, tears of relief though. There’s something freeing about being in the company of people who get it without you having to explain yourself first. I felt welcomed and SEEN. I’ll definitely be going back this week

I went to my first meeting last night. The support is incredible.

That's awesome!!! So glad you got to go to a secular discussion meeting. They have been the most helpful for me. Crosstalk is just gonna happen, with usually the same offenders haha
