Trying to figure it all out..for months now 😩

Hi all! Just came across this app and figured I’d check it out. I have a problem with binge drinking, trauma, codependency…housing, friends, family, employment.. I am guessing most of you know how that goes! I have been planning to go to a dual diagnosis program down in Florida since November when I really hit rock bottom but have been packing up my place to put in storage in the meantime bc my rent is so expensive. But yeah, here I am still 3months later still not packed and ready to go.. My family and friends don’t understand and think I’m making excuses, and are pretty much done with me all at once. It’s all just so much to tackle at once. I live alone with my dog- thank god for him because some days have just become so hard to even get out of bed. The guilt, shame, confusion, and loneliness is so hard. Perhaps I’m just venting but my mind just doesn’t stop, and I’m constantly exhausted.

Hi Andrea-you aren’t alone. There are so many nice helpful people on this site ready to listen-give great advice. It is hard-but so far I’m happy I’ve done it. Now I just have sober problems-with no hang overs.

Hang in there. All of your descriptions resonated with me. There is something out have always valued about yourself. A natural gift from birth. It’s easy for you. Takes no effort and you do it really well. Tap into that. It elevates all sense of co-dependency because it belongs to you solely. I wish the best am here if you ever need to talk.

I am an alcoholic big time but also a counselor. I ran outpatient dual diagnosis groups for awhile. Once you get into the program and get your mental health issues under control, staying sober will not be easy, but will much more manageable. Finding the right medication and staying on them is imperative. Finding people that share in your dual diagnosis struggle will be so helpful. Their fellowship will work wonders for staying sober. In the meantime, keep coming back here. I love this place. So much fellowship and a safe haven. Reach out anytime. Always here to lend a hand and listen. God bless!

Thank you! I didn’t mention on this post but I’m a counselor as well! I have not been working since last school year though bc I decided to take a ā€œbreakā€ hoping I’d be better by the new year but my rock bottom hit and pushed that timeline back further. I will not help others when I’m not well. I can’t wait to get back to it..most rewarding profession ever. I am so grateful I chose the path yet little did I know how badly I’d need help one day.

Yes it is so frustrating being able to help others and not yourself. Boy do I get that. I agree, wonderful profession. I haven’t counseled in many years. However, because I have struggled with alcoholism for yearsI am able to help others with their struggle. I love this app! So many people need help on here, looking for a friend or just to talk. It is very rewarding. You will be such an asset to others here. I wish you the best in your endeavor to find peace in recovery. Reach out anytime. Love to chat with you. Here’s to a sober Saturday! Take care my friend.

I sent you a friend request

You should look into RECO Intensive down here in Delray FL. It is amazing and everyone staff even the BHT's have so much love for everyone. Best decision I ever made honestly! Good luck on everything and congrats on acknowledging your problems and reaching out for help!

Breathe and tell yourself youre gonna get through this. Focus on what your able to do and let everything else work itself out. I can just imagine how anxious you must feel with friends and family down your back asking questions you don't have an answer for yet. That's life and it stops for no one. What you need to do though is take a step back and just focus on one task at a time. And the main one is taking care of you and that lil pup of yours. Animals are the best forms of therapy and are amazing cuddlers. Best advise I can give is just close your eyes and breathe for a couple seconds when you need a break. There's a lot of zoom meetings out there too so you're never alone. I found a website that they have one every hour of the day all over the world. So there's always someone to hear or talk to.

Did you do the IOP program? Have you heard anything about Futures Recovery?

I did do the IOP. I went to daylight detox which was ok but they recommended RECO and I loved it. Spent 4 weeks there. Futures is here by me in Jupiter. It is really nice too. I can't speak on it because I've never been there but I've heard great things about it. I loved RECO so much though that I am planning on working there part time as a behavioral health tech and or maintenance man.

That’s great! I have been looking into futures but my pup is presenting an issue bc I want to have him with me! It’s really just him and I do I don’t feel comfortable leaving him with anyone. Where did you stay during IOP and isn’t it only M-F? 2 of my concerns doing IOP..

Reco has their own housing. They bought a bunch of houses in Delray Beach. There are usually 6 people per house. It's all covered by insurance and they give you 75.00 a week for food. They provide transportation to the clinical building which is beautiful. All the houses are walking distance from the beach too. A couple miles at most. I think it was actually PHP is what they call it for the first 3-4 weeks then you move to iop and they have sober living in the area they are connected with if you didn't want to stay in their houses etc...after 4 weeks they charge 100.00 a week for rent but nothing until that point. I don't think you can bring your pup though.

Sounds nice! He is my service dog but I am still nervous about having him with me 24/7. He comes with me most places but never for full day events. We shall see. I would have my own room at futures so I still think it’s the best option as of now. Ty again!
