Trying to stay sober has been a challenge. Feel

Trying to stay sober has been a challenge. Feel like a failure each morning I wake up after a night of drinking. I dont drink nightly, but 2-3 nights a week. Besides attending meetings, any other advice on staying sober? What mental approaches have you found successful?

You’re not a failure, you’re in a fight that takes time to rewire both the body and the mind.
For me, changing my routine and cutting off “any and all decision windows”. Reaching out to someone before the urge gets to overwhelming, and planning nights differently. You’re here, and asking, which means this is what you want. Proud of you. Keep going.

Thank you!

Writing in my journal seems to help me but meetings help more

Thanks!

I am on day 10. Rather than thinking about what I am NOT doing (drinking) I focus on what I AM doing (sleeping better, thinking clearer, less inflammation, less headaches...).
I don't tell people that I am not drinking, I tell them that I am 'exploring sobriety'. It feels more positive. I also did some surprising math, and figured out that I was spending about $7000 a year on booze! In 10 days, I have saved $200!

I just spent 5 days at a retreat in the woods near my home, that I attend annually. I always come home absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the quality of the interactions that happen during this retreat. The camp is dry. No alcohol, nor recreational drugs are permitted. This year, attending after making the decision to give up alcohol, I realized that these quality interactions are because they are GENUINE. Not dulled by intoxicants.
That epiphany also helps drive me.
