How do you sleep you all? Two and a half weeks sober, and loving it so far. I think quality of sleep has improved now that the alcohol is out of my system. But the 7-8 hours of sound uninterrupted sleep are still eluding me haha. My favorite insomnia remedy is listening to an audiobook at super low volume and .75% playback speed. Really helps to slow down the brain and stop ruminating. What do you guys do when you can’t sleep?
Sounds like a good plan. Good for you. Keep it going.
Great to hear you’re enjoying sobriety! It is so wonderful to be alive again after being shut off for so long. As for sleep, I like your remedy! I found some deep breathing meditations to be helpful. However, honestly the only thing that really helped me was time. I hope you find other methods, but in the meantime be patient with yourself and the process. Have faith that if you continue to work on your recovery on a daily basis, that sleep, and much more will get better

Great job, keep it up!
On the nights I bust my a$$ in my workout, I sleep like a baby. I’m not sure if ever get 7-8 uninterrupted. I’m an old guy and gotta pee.
The nice thing is that I can survive a day without a perfect nights sleep, because I’m not hungover and feel like $hit. When I was drinking I was surviving on just about no sleep.
Despite working and staying busy 14 hours a day I still experienced insomnia for about 10 days. I just stopped fighting it and watched movies. No sleep remedies worked but it passes just like everything else. Congratulations on being sober today
Same! Even if I don’t get enough sleep I’m still fine the next day. Insomnia used to stress me out, which didn’t help with sleeping of course haha.
I know, I often get sidetracked too. Not being able to sleep used to be a major concern when I was still drinking. But without the booze it’s not much of a biggie anymore. Melatonin doesn’t work for me, but sticking to a routine sure helps.
Not fighting insomnia is key! And thanks to sobriety a sleepless night is not a big deal anymore. And the audiobook is keeping me from fretting, and mildly entertained haha
I’ve used sleeping meditations too. They often help, but if my mind is too busy and I’m too tired I sometimes find it hard to stay focused lol. Interestingly, putting my feet a bit higher than my heart often works like a charm. Maybe it helps blood flow to the brain?
I would get frustrated in the beginning . Once I let go of that I was OK the next day.
I’ll have to try the raising of the feet technique. Do you have to have heart for that to work lol? On a more serious note, I actually fall asleep hard most nights, my bigger issue is waking up in the middle of the night (old man problems
), and then falling back to sleep. I try and not turn on the lates and sleepwalk to the bathroom, because once my mind really awakens it is hard to go back to sleep. Either way, we are making progress

Haha, I’m just propping up my feet on a few pillows. Yup, waking up in the middle of the night is my main issue too. I’ll reset the book to where I left off and most of the time I’m back asleep within 10 minutes. If not at least I’m not bored lol
Mind racing is big. I' have used the Calm App which helps
Yes, I’ve used calm in the past too, good app.
Do you exercise? I have major insomnia problems from anxiety and I find regular exercise is helping me back to a better full night rest.
Yes I do.
I drink a herbal tea made for aiding in sleep. I also use essential oils. Melatonin does help and sominex sometimes.
Good idea, will try some herbal tees and see what they do.
