Ugh another binge weekend

Ugh another binge weekend. I go for a weeks then I go out and just can’t put on the breaks. I get drunk and hungover. Anyone have this issue? How did you deal with it?

I do have the same exact issue
Go without, then drink n blackout cuz I feel I deserve it

Yep! It feeds into the reward mechanism and then I feel good and just keep going. With judgement impaired it’s hard to stop.

We just need to leave the poison alone
Don’t pick up that drink!!
My new motto! You’re not alone !

I know that feeling. What inside you are you trying to fix with drinking?

I like to socialize see old friends and meet new people. It’s just what the local pub or corner tavern was for. I start to feel good and buzzed and instead of riding it somehow I think I need to pick up the pace and end up where I don’t want to be.

Better to just not start. I love the socializing but started to order something different. You don’t need the alcohol for the good time and visiting. It all starts with one so try and avoid it altogether

I have learned to not even visit immediate family members because they drink. Guess finding new sober friends is a good idea. If I hung out with friends in a bar I would relapse.

Dave, welcome to Loosid. You’re not alone. I too was in your shoes. I hit rock bottom. Life was upside down. Lost the wife, kicked out of my home. I checked myself in to rehab. Got sober at my dads first. Went to group therapy. I was extremely honest with myself and the group. Went to NA, AA, life ring, recovery dharma and this APP Loosid. These meetings early on helped me get outside of myself. I was selfish in early recovery. Today I no longer have the urge to drink or use. I go to meetings to help the newcomer. I practice prayer and meditation. I journal, gratitude list and reach out to my support group for guidance and to help them as well. We are all in this together. I tried to do it on my own a few times but lacked the necessary tools needed to stay sober.

Give this a listen. It might answer some of your questions.

Good stuff Kevin thank you! I’ve used meditation here and there. I found it help me more when I use it medicinally rather than dietary haha if that makes sense. I am wondering if this is tied to a greater aspect of my personality. Lots to think about this week.

You’re welcome Dave.
For me I found that I have an allergy to alcohol. When I take that first drink I encounter a phenomenon of craving. My body wants more. My mind begins to obsess over it. I was also spiritually depleted. Working steps of Alcoholics Anonymous has given me a life that I would never dreamed of. Had to do the work but it is well worth it.
Have you gone to AA before?

Had it for many years. Eventually you will want sobriety more than the alcohol. Best of luck. Don't give up

What you have been experiencing is not abnormal to people like us.
Question you might want to ask yourself.. are you like us or are you seeking a way to control your drinking?
What I mean by us is that many of us if not all on this app have one thing in common.. that one thing is addiction to Drink pill or fix.
I myself have not successfully controlled Alcohol and or other substances.. if anything they controlled me. Kind of like you stated in one of your replies “I start to feel buzzed and instead of riding it somehow I think I need to pick up the pace and end up where I don’t want to be.”
Sounds to me that you have made many attempts.. after making several of those attempts ya keep coming up with the same results.

Give recovery a shot and it will give you a shot.
“What ya got to loose?” :man_shrugging:
Have a great day bro :hugs:

Yep I have tried to control it and it does not seem to be a thing. At least not for me. I think it would be best to just make the decision to stop completely.

I believe your right brother.
Your not alone.
There are places (fellowships)
That are free of charge in other words no dues or fees.
na dot org. aa dot org. I had to put it that way or else it would be flagged :man_shrugging:
Not sure why when it’s public information not promotion :man_shrugging:
Anyway check it out brother.
There are also other programs that others could share info with you.
I hope the best for ya brother.
“The old lie is dead we do recover”
:hugs:

It's not how often you drink but what happens when you do drink.

Very true. Most times it’s benign and just a cold walk home. Other times I embarrass myself and feel like a fool. Haha
