Thats the theme for my entire life, and it makes no sense, given i sm constantly trying to organize my life. But how do you organize active addiction?
That's a great question and hadn't thought of it recently. My experience is when I started my sobriety journey, I had to find a new regime.
Prior to sobriety I had scheduled my drinking. When I went on vacation when I would have my first drink. On a business trip, what time i would get to the airport to have dinner. And yes a beer. What time I would start my weekend, and poor my, now ex, wife her 1 glass of wine, so i could get her to pass out and drink a 12 pack of beer.
Upon the suggestion of my sponsor, I called him daily, went to 90 meetings in 90 days. Got on my knees at least twice (waking/sleeping) to pray. Read pages 60-63 daily. Memorized the 12 steps. I am a college fraternity guy it wasn't having, it was to teach me new positive habits. BTW, I did learn a lot other than to drink professionally during my college fraternity years, another story.
To get a daily reprieve from alcoholism, I found what else I like to do. I found i traveled more, sober. Went to live sporting events, sober. I love to eat, and enjoy a meal without a drink. I saw Alley Wong live without being drunk, which is a miracle (i at first thought who sees comedy sober). I'm still finding out who i am with a few 24 hours, and at being an old man at 52. Always learning about myself and this world.
If you are new, I suggest giving yourself time, and grace to learn what makes Ivey tick and find happiness .
Great question!
But how do you organize active addiction?,that’s an oxymoron. Answer: we can’t.
Better question, how do we go from,”extreme example of self will run riot, to Good Orderly Direction.
This took a great deal persuasion, work and time. Persuasion helped by a good sponsor, work by doing the Steps and going to meetings, time by friendly encouragement to keep coming back!
Don’t leave before the miracle happens!!!
Sit at the end of your bed. Point out the things in your life that’s holding you back. Write them down. Just the things or influences or people that’s holding you back from being where you need to be. I promise you’ll get your answer.
List out the things that is holding you back Samantha. I’m currently struggling with the same and recently wrote down the things and people that’s holding me back from being at my full potential
