Why I can’t stand AA. I hear you.

Phuck em

Well it's not a matter of handling it's more perceiving. You have to first understand the character cuz many of them have sat right next to addict that they loved and watch them die because they wouldn't stop being selfish. Then there's that fucktard who heard someone share and made the story there's, who knows what really wrong with there a**

I just tell them to watch the YouTube video on addiction by Dr. Nicole Labor and to call me when they're done feeling stupid.

If it’s the one I found, that dam thing is 2 hours long.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I guess it buys you 2 hours of not having to listen to them.:joy:

Yeah it's long but it has science even most the "experts" aren't up to speed on. Worth watching more than once. And she's a recovered addict so she's not jus talking about something she studied in a book.

I'll check it out. I like the real science based ones. Did you know for example that an addict can get more dopamine from engaging in their addiction than you can get from winning the Olympics or becoming President? Yeah, every person you know who is sober had the strength to walk away from that kind of high. Give me an army of those people is what I say!

Normies are fortunate and they mean well. They just don’t get it. That’s why they’re normies. Put yhem in the right classification. Like military people call others ‘civilians’ and IT people call others ‘users’ :joy:

Except people in AA are going through the same thing.

I just don’t respond well to preachy behavior is all. What is right for one person might not be right for another.

Yeah…. I’m right there with you on that. I think some people use AA as a power trip. However, the majority of people are there for the right reasons.
Sometimes it’s just the wrong group. I’ve yet to find the right one for me. I hop around

My biggest issue here is that you think other people are “normies”. I hate that term. They aren’t normal…. They just behave differently when they consume alcohol.

I’m an alcoholic, but I’m also a normal person

Perhaps you’re right, I keep finding groups of older men that always seem to know what’s best and I just entirely disagree.

Maybe some of the difference is that everyone is a little fu(ked up, but we in recovery acknowledge it and are doing something about it. :slightly_smiling_face:

But..normies are still a major a$$ pain sometimes. Come on.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’m only 37 days sober, and am really holding on for dear life. I have close friends and a supportive family, but the more I grow in my sobriety and listen to other alcoholics and their stories, and the more I read the Big Book and apply it to my life, the more I feel welcomed by my fellow alcoholics and less so by my non-alcoholic support group. It isn’t for lack of trying. They are trying to do and say the right things, mostly because they want to feel that they know that I know they support me. Sometimes it feels like being of service in that I’m allowing them to feel validated (prolly not the healthiest point of view). But I still feel this disconnect with them. The kind words are appreciated but sometimes, h$ll yes they can sound ignorant. My favorite so far: “So what exactly is like, the length of time for recovery?”

Forever. I was an alcoholic, I am an alcoholic, and I will always be an alcoholic.

It does irk me as it does you. I just roll my eyes (figuratively), smile, and nod.
