UPDATE: Found shrooms in recovering bf’s bag. Replying to comments

Wow! Very interesting characters on here. Thank you all for giving me advice on the intended issue. Some didn’t notice that I have over 4 years sobriety. That being said, I’ve never been on the “other side”, meaning I’m in the position of not trusting an addict, whereas I would usually be the one not to trust.
I sat him down and told him what I did and reiterated that I was not angry with him. We both have a devastating disease. I told him my reasoning for the search. He had previously given me a pipe that he found in his old “drug bag” as he calls it. I was extremely proud of him. However, a couple of days later, I get this stinkin thinkin. When I was in early recovery and not yet ready, I found 2 liquor bottles under my bed. My alcoholic mind gave one of the bottles to my parents to show them that they could trust me while I kept the other bottle “just in case”. This, I searched the bag.
His reaction was not one of anger or defense. He was genuinely shocked and immediately dumped the shrooms down the garbage disposal. He thanked me for finding them. I told him that honesty is crucial in recovery. He said he honestly didn’t know they were there.
It’s tricky being on the other side, but after meditating and thinking about it, I decided that we should go our separate ways. I haven’t dated at all during recovery and it became obvious that I still have many character defects.
My sobriety and happiness come first. I’ve been a total 13th stepper… ew. He doesn’t need me in his life. He needs to put all his energy into his recovery and none into me. I will continue to support him, though from a distance connecting him with other resources men in recovery.
Thank you to those who provided constructive and kind advice!

Thanks for sharing your experience, strength, and hope with us. I think you handled it well considering the circumstances. Sounds as if you took your own inventory and got honest with yourself regarding your side of the street. That’s what they call working a program. Don’t be too hard on yourself. We are not saints. I appreciate you sharing, as well as your sobriety :peace_symbol:

Good for you. Definite growth going on with you.

Honesty is always the best. No doubt this will make you even stronger down the line.

Probably shouldn't of been with him in the first place since you were going through his stuff.
