Using “and” instead of “but”

Listen to these 2 statements.

  1. “I quit drinking, but my life is better now”

  2. “I quit drinking, and my life is better now”

Which statement carries more weight?

I learned this at some point in my recovery. We often use the word “but” when we could and should use “and”. Getting better at this has helped me to communicate more effectively, especially when it comes to setting healthy boundaries.
