Very sad

Trying to make amends and I had no idea how I hurt my family. Want to drink to get rid of the guilt. Oh my will this ever end

I know it’s hard but hopefully you can have more honest conversations moving forward. Drinking won’t help with the guilt, it will just add to it. You’ve said what you had to, the next step is letting go and moving forward :purple_heart:

Thank you so much but I am afraid it will be easier for them to let go than me

I hate myself

Acknowledge it, feel it for a bit and let it go. If you waste your time looking back you will get lost going forward. Bad things happen, we know that. We caused them. But not forgiving yourself is a disaster in the making. Be kind to yourself.

It might be easier for them, but give yourself lots of grace and think about how brave you are for even taking the step towards healing. Don’t underestimate yourself.

Sounds like a good time to pray or meditate. Hugs to you! I have a lot of family guilt also. We let it go each day we heal though. Each day without, we start to become a different person.

Amends are hard. It caused me much anxiety as well. My middle grown daughter was having no part of it. It took me 6 years for her but other family members came around quicker. It gets better I promise.
Stay strong and focused.

Don't look back. Only look forward.

Pam, most of us feel the same way. I’m grateful I have remorse and regret; otherwise, I’d most likely be a sociopath or psychopath and not even bother trying.

Hating yourself only makes you less helpful to others. Find the strength in your higher power to forgive yourself and go help someone. Self pity never gets us far.
