Want to relapse

I am wanting to relapse tonight. A family member has stage 4 cancer, got a new job, and I’m not going to see my family for Christmas. The closer it gets to Christmas the harder it gets to stay sober.

I’d ask, what picking up will do to make any of better? Convince me it would and I’d buy the first round. See if I pick up I loose my family, my job, I’m not present for people in time of need, broke, sick, mentally unstable, miserable and the list goes on and on. My suggestion is to go help someone, I loose the ability to be consumed with my own “problems” when I tap into human compassion to help someone else in a time of need. You can overcome this and your worthy of healthy recovery

Think about what made u get sober to begin with. Think about your family members and what they'd want for u. Don't pick up you're stronger then that. Best thing to do is stay busy. And like the other gentlemen said maybe find another who needs help. Get out of your headspace. I wish u well

Play the tape all the way out, the results if you did use. Remember, being sober is what you prayed for. Give us an update as soon as you’re able. You’ve got this

Sam I hope that the circumstances that life has given you have not led you down the self destructive path. You have a new job, how great is that? I know first hand that having a family member with cancer is tough. But what would they feel like after you used? Reach out to sober support (which you have) is a good starting point.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sick family and that you won't get to see others for Christmas. Remember, if you relapse, you might not see them at all. Congratulations on the new job. Although it prevents you from seeing the ones you love when you most want to, use it as an oppprtunity to be in an event better personal position when you are able to.

I don't celebrate Christmas, so if you need someone to talk to during the holidays, I'll be holding down the fort at my empty office with very little on my plate and plenty of time to chat.
