Was the wait worth it?

I finally admitted to friends and family today that I needed help. This past weekend was the worst bendor that I've ever had. I went through a handle and a half of Tito's in 48 hours. I had friends beating on my door today asking me if I was okay. My employer called me personally to see if I was okay. A guy that I have known for years took me to my first aa meeting today. I have not had a drink since Sunday night (after I passed out at 10 p.m.) and I know this week is the worst week that I'm going to have. I have lost my girlfriend to my drinking Over the years I have lost quite a few good friends. And I've also lost the relationship that I have had with my family members.

I am looking forward to doing the right thing. I'm going to another aa meeting tomorrow. My boss told me to take the week off into get help.

When does the pain go away? It's too soon for me to tell.

Congratulations on taking that first step! Right now don’t worry about anything except healing yourself. Fixing things, and relationships comes later. The pain and embarrassment, self loathing, shame, anger… all that gets easier to deal with as you do the steps. Find a sponsor. Be honest… even if every fiber of you is screaming to lie or withhold the truth. The most important thing is to just stay sober. A minute, hour or day at a time. Hit the pillow sober every night and that’s a win! You gave up everything for one thing… time to give up that one thing for everything. You got this bud!

Yes it will get better in time because it has for me.. I have been sober for 1 year and 10 months and I went through a similar situation at work and that’s when I decided to stop.. It will definitely hard in the beginning but seek therapy as well as a sponsor that worked for me
