We thought we could find an easier, softer way. But we could not…. Some of us tried to hold on to our old ideas and the result was nil until we let go absolutely…. Half measures availed us nothing.

So true. I put it like this...
I need to climb a wall. I'm not getting a ladder with half the rungs missing, I'm not getting one that is too short, nor am I getting one that is only the right or left half of a ladder. I am going to get one that is sturdy, with all its rungs, and at least as tall as the wall. To not do that means I will not make it to the top.

We could not. That’s the rub, no one wants the hard way. I didn’t want to go to meetings and didn’t for the first six months, I was miserable. Once I started meetings things got better. One of the reasons I didn’t want to was that I didn’t want to have to go for the rest of my life, I just wanted to get better and move on…. Well, I’ll be going for the rest of my life. There is no easier softer way… at least for me
