Wedding tomorrow

So I had to go to a business conference in early sobriety. It was held mostly at the bar/ restaurant. I checked in with my sponsor regularly and ordered tonic water with a twist of lime. I did my business and GTFO.

I have often said that I am driving or have things to do the next day as my reasons for not drinking. We should not have to justify staying sober but sometimes you get less peer pressure that way. I have not been around people drinking in a while. I might stop by a gathering tomorrow. I plan to start just telling people that I have quit drinking. This is the first time I have thought of it as something permanent rather than just seeing how long I can stick with it.

If people ask you why you’re not drinking it’s because you don’t drink anymore. Nuff said.

When these types of events come up in our life, whether one is early in their sobriety, the suggestions are pretty much the same as that of one who has yrs... 1) Always have an escape plan, like u said u’ll drive yourself, meaning when u need to get the F out u can!!! 2)Bring a sober support person, whether they're a AA/NA person or Sponsor, even a family member or close friend that stays sober at this event & also doesn’t want u using!!!

  1. Bring a list of phone #’s…Here’s a great reason Y they say get phone #’s & USE THEM!!! Don’t just put them in ur cell phone, cuz the battery dies on u, or if ur like me, while I was washing dishes earlier, I was messing with my phone at the same time & u know what happened next…Just goes to show u that things are fallible…Hence, Bring a list!!!

Nice, I’ve heard that a few times now…Heck it’s true lol I’ve been with ppl & they’re going to get alcohol & ask what I drink…I’ve said the second part of the 1st step “oh I don’t drink anymore” They reply “Why not”, “My life becomes unmanageable”…. They laugh & that’s it…Honestly I think they totally understand what I’m saying!!!

  1. Everyone has some great suggestions, please read through all these comments and take the suggestions, especially from the people that have gone through this b4...As far as what to drink, heck u can drink anything that doesn’t have alcohol in it…U don’t have to choose something that looks like an alcoholic drink, there’s water, coffee, soda, juice…I drank beer 99% of the time so any of those drinks listed would not bother me, Idk what your go-to was, but if it was like screwdrivers then orange juice might not be the best bet, that could be triggering for one… as far as what you should say about not drinking, well honestly it’s nobody’s business, but if you have some close buddies there and you want to tell them the truth then go for it, you do what you feel is best for you!!! Pray this morning, on the way to the event, and right before you get out of the car...The serenity prayer works great for me, sometimes I’ve had to say that over and over and over again in my head until I felt at ease… U got this Brad!!!Good Luck:four_leaf_clover::wink::four_leaf_clover::crossed_fingers::wink: And have fun :tada::confetti_ball:🪩🪅

Good idea driving yourself so you can leave any time you feel uncomfortable. I am always up front about the fact that I won’t be drinking. Everyone is different. It’s a personal choice. Giving you all the love and encouragement possible to have lots of fun!

Last night was a success! Thank you all for your kind words and support! Feeling very grateful for you guys and proud of myself. My friends didn’t even think anything of me not drinking. I had it built up in my head.
