Weekend Intervention

After going on a spree this weekend, some friends sat me down for an intervention talk yesterday. I didn’t quite realize how the small things pile into a lot of hurt for them. It got emotional but I agreed that I will take myself seriously this time and really really work the program in NA/AA. I’ll have to put in more work into finding a sponsor but I believe I can do this. It’s probably gonna be the hardest thing to ever commit to or at least that’s how it feels like for a 23 year old right now.

Hello. It sounds like you’ve tried before and it hasn’t worked. What are you going to do different this time? Did your friends want you to go to rehab? I know for me, I always thought I could do it my way and that I could handle my addiction. It wasn’t until I surrendered, and got out of the way of recovery that it finally took hold.

I’ve only ever really done the program alone without really leaning on others during recovery so I’m gonna keep pushing myself to go to a meeting and find a sponsor eventually to hold myself more accountable. Thanks for your input, appreciate it

You can’t do it alone believe me I tried! This is a good forum because we all are dealing with addiction and people who understand! I did a program and was sober for a year and relapsed! I’m here and am going to counseling! Accepting is the first step! Stay strong :muscle:

I’m not sure, but it probably seems unfair to “have” to get sober at 23. IMO it is something to be grateful for though. I got sober at 49. In my new sober life I feel a lot of regret. Regret that I didn’t do this sooner. Regret, because my life would have looked a lot different (better). My sponsor tells me that that way of thinking is super unhealthy and I agree. He says my best years are ahead of me. I agree with that too. My point is that at your young age you have an amazing opportunity to set your life off in a useful, purposeful direction.
