Well back to day 1….again.I drank two days in a row with the thought process of I’m not driving and I’m not hurting anyone by drinking a couple of drinks.
Hmmmmm….I know I’m completely wrong. I am hurting myself! It did help take “the edge off”. Temporarily. It is just so hard to believe I have let myself get to this place. I’m so busy trying to keep it all together I don’t feel like I have time to do the work I need to do to get passed day 7.
ADDICTION SUCKS
If it helps, all of us started with one day. Yes, addiction sucks!! Have you tried going to meetings? They're online and in person. They're also FREE! Meetings have helped me stay clean and sober for 4.5 years!
I’m coming up on a year and I feel like sobriety is my only option.
When I think about my own addiction I try to think of it differently or look at it as a positive thing.
I believe addicts are survivors. That we are resourceful. If I can alter the perception of my addiction and consider that it could be a blessing not a curse it helps me from using.
I use most any tool suggested to me by other people in recovery. Positive affirmations, meditation, prayer, breathing routines. Being careful what I watch, read, or listen to.
Who I spend time with and where I spend my time. I’m not perfect. Far from it. I make choices that lack spiritual or emotional sobriety. I always will. It’s my nature, but I know that chemical insobriety will only make everything else worse.
That is in part how I’ve done it and I realize I can never stop. Sounds hard sometimes but when I consider what I’ve already survived in life and how resourceful I can be when challenged it makes things seem all the easier.
I’m glad you’re back. 1 day is no different than 1 year or 1 decade. Every day I have the opportunity to prove that I can be sober.

Relapse happens. Don’t beat yourself up too much. According to your addiction it “took the edge off” but did it really? That is the trick that the demon plays on us. Don’t listen to it. The only way to find peace is to fight that demon back! You are a warrior! I believe in you and you can win!
I know you’re right…I need to get a warrior mindset. Thank you for that.
No shame! Welcome back, be proud of yourself!
It took me hundreds of times before it stuck. I still don't trust it 100 percent. One day at a time. Best of luck on your journey
Deep breathing has been my go to…it helps. I want to get in the habit of using affirmations. I am taking in all the encouragement and tools others talk about here. It’s just all so overwhelming right now. I have been
looking for meetings and have some evaluations scheduled with a treatment facility. Thank you for taking the time to help.
Candles, plants, and uplifting music get me through these days. I totally get it been there and struggle too
You’ve admitted it. That’s step one, now forgive yourself for making the wrong choice and remind yourself you can do better. You’ve got this!
I have enough 24 hour coins to put on a necklace and look like Mr. T🙃Don’t give up…
Forgive yourself and stay connected to AA, been sober thru some storms and deaths in my family and now a break, I have to remember that I have a disease that I must take care one day at a time like my life depends on it, because it does, no matter what happens when life throws a curve ball picking up is not an option. Serenity prayer is key for me.
The cool thing about it is, it’s your program. Nobody can take it from you. Have fun with it.
I use the serenity constantly!!
Thank you
Hey, it happens. It’s now in the past and we can’t change it. Good news is we can impact the future. I’m working on trying to develop some new hobbies. Being “bored” was one of the windows that sometimes let the demon in. So I’m trying to learn the guitar now. I can tell you I’m not going to be Eric Clapton, but it beats drinking.
I agree with you, James. Now that I KNOW that I'm an addict recovery is the only way. Recovery IS a blessing if one is an addict. In a way I've never really had it so good.
Remember one day at a time.then 24 hours.down to minutes at a time.tackle one thing at a time.slow down.
