Well I’m sober for one day and I’m going to give a valid attempt to stay sober the remainder of the weekend. I’ve dealt with drinking so long it’s such an ongoing battle for me. What’s the best way to curb the cravings I experience after work?
Go and grab your favorite foods! Curb the cravings with eating your heart out. Also, if you are able to- exercise as much as you can! It releases all of the pent up energy.
I second what Amanda said:) in the beginning for me, I was hitting the gym first thing in the morning and if I had any thoughts about drinking after work I’d go to the gym again. It took about six months of that routine before it was no longer an issue. Finding weekly work out classes such as boxing or yoga can be a huge help as well. Any sort of positive distraction will help, grubbing out and a good series on Netflix is a decent start as well:)
Hey Matthew. My recommendation is to make a meeting.
Also check in with us everyday to let us know how you are feeling.
Also try to move a bit. As they say, move a muscle change a thought.
We are here for you!
I drank again tonight and I’m feeling like an asshole. I’ve got a great job, house, car. Everything you could possibly want in life yet I’m miserable. What’s wrong with me.
I really think you should find a meeting Matthew! We are all here supporting you. You don’t have to do this alone.
The gym really helped me i must admit. So i stand with Amanda & Jeff.
Try and make a meeting if you can. Like MJ says, we have to say the three words no alcoholic wants to say- I need help.
What’s wrong with you?! The same thing that’s wrong with us Mathew. You are sick. You have a disease called alcoholism. The sooner you humble yourself and accept it, the sooner you can begin to recover. We all can stop. We just can’t stay stopped. As others have suggested, I also suggest AA meetings. You’re fighting something that you can’t fight without help. Don’t wait until you lose everything. Many of us have had it all and blown it all up. Others get help before their lives implode. The three hardest words for me was I need help. Don’t be scared, recovery is a beautiful journey. Get on the bus and join us

You have a disease dude. I tried to post a link to Chapter 3 of the AA big book “More about Alcoholism” but for some reason it wouldn’t let me. If you can get your hands on it, it would be a good read for you. It starts on page 30.
