Well. I relapsed. I knew I would. The urge to drink had been gnawing at me for days. Nothing crazy happened. And hungover today. I really didn’t miss much. I think it was the fact that I “knew” I couldn’t have it. Ugh. And I had made it a whole month. Little down on myself but I’ll dust myself off and give it another go.
It happens. I know it’s not what we want, but sometimes we slip. Don’t let it get you down. I used to be a licensed addictions therapist and my old supervisor told me once that addiction is a relapse disease. Sometimes it happens, but it doesn’t mean we failed. It just means we have to pick ourselves up and push back through it. Keep your head high and start fresh and focused! You can do it!
Yes, give it another go. Most of us have been there, the disappointment, regret, etc. The key is to move on, like you mention, dust yourself off. I’m listening to an audiobook on Audible called Alcohol Explained. It’s only 6 hours but very interesting. I’m learning a lot.
Sounds like what happened to me. I was sober for 8 years then I had an opportunity, I mean I always had opportunity, this time I decided to drink because I could. It taught me that I need to find a better way to stop myself. You are on a journey sometimes the path is easy and sometimes it is not.
I’ve heard when some people have rly hard days they get a new 24 hour chip to help. But I think a huge part of this for you is that you’re willing to admit it. That’s a big step towards recovery is self acknowledgment and step #1.
Pick up and keep going Kayla!!! You got this!! I have had a few restarts myself. We all do!

Never get too Hungry Angry Lonely Tired. HALT
Isolating not attending meetings and not socializing with others in recovery is what led to my relapse. I was 24 when I first went into recovery and made it 2.5 yrs then went back out. Came back in at 30 and have been sober ever since. Just made it to 29 yrs sober last month. It can be done and I’ve seen many people recover from a very young age. Get back in there and work the steps
Kayla, just start again. Learn what triggered you to drink. On a website/podcast, I learned that I really just wanted to drink without consequences instead of getting and staying sober. That really opened my eyes. So now I am admitting that I can’t drink.!! Discover tools that will help keep you sober and remember what you hate about drinking. Yes the first or even the second is good but I can’t stop there I keep going until I am sh!t faced. You can do this. Don’t beat yourself up we have all relapsed.
Yeah, you kinda did telegraph that one. I get the rebellious attitude as well. I know I was in a battle with myself before I finally gave up. Let’s face it, most of us would love to be able to drink like normal people. Sobriety is not something a normal person would ever think about. Once again, you have proven to yourself that drinking kicks your a$s. On a positive note, you got it out of your system. Hopefully this will be the bottom you need to begin step 1, so that you can move forward in your recovery. Find yourself a program that appeals to you, and work it. When you’re an alcoholic, drinking really does $uck! Recovery is where it’s at!
I totally understand the rebellious attitude as well. I get the same way.. just get back up and be kind to yourself.
Hello Kayla! Welcome back! What’s one thing you can do differently this time? Or maybe there’s a few things? I can say that when I was asked this question this time around I really got honest with myself and said there’s a lot I can do this time! And then I picked one thing and started doing it. Then I picked another and another. Soon I had new tools to live by that would keep me sober. If you need advice I’m here to be of service. Ask away.
Hi, Kayla. How has today been for you?
Everyone here has provided helpful insights. I feel myself heading towards a relapse.
Ok. I will not drink with y’all tonight ( I am on central time zone, u s a ).
Back on the horse. Done it myself . Don’t beat yourself up. Move forward; not backward!
Hi Kayla! Just read your post. I am here for you. I have had way too many day 1’s. Here for you drinking or not drinking. Good job coming right back! You will do this.
The urge…. Call your sponsor and get to a meeting as soon as possible.
Hey there Kayla…
Maybe get to some meetings or join a group that interests you. It can be so difficult being sober, but doing it alone is next to impossible. Maybe a sponsor would be helpful. Just some thoughts. Hang in there!!
Pick yourself up dust yourself off. Get back on the horse. You did great. Find someone to be accountable with. It might help when urges occur.
