What are some good qualities to look for in a sponsor?

When they share at meetings do you identify with how they were when drinking/using? In their sobriety are they living a life that you want for yourself?

Someone who makes time for you Who shows up for you. More than5 years in.

Always sharing if you need too specially if you think you’re going to use again. Or if you have a a burning Desire.

A thorough, firsthand knowledge of the 12 steps as outlined in the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous and a willingness to take you through them in a timely manner… a sponsor’s only job…

Hello: I work the 12 Steps of Narcotics Anonymous. In our literature a sponsor is another recovering addict with a year or more clean time and a working knowledge of the 12 Steps. There's also a pamphlet that describes what a sponsor and what is not. It's free online.

Qualities I look for:
willingness to go to any lengths to achieve sobriety. Ultimately, like Michael stated “a working knowledge of the steps.” Has a sponsor and is working his program. Goes to meetings regularly. Puts recovery top priority. Gives away what was freely given to him.
Years and knows what they are talking about. Ask around.
