What are you doing to stay sober, apart from this app or going to meetings?
Reading books about addiction, podcasts, drinking lots of non-alcoholic beer and seltzer
Well I checked myself into a year long intensive outpatient treatment center. I live there but have freedom. So I get UA randomly, so that helps a lot. And I do a lot of the things I'm learning in group. Breathing exercises help alot with cravings come, and volunteering and helping others is a big help too. To me being sober is alot more than just not using. It's a change of life, learning how to live truthfully and honestly.
God, health, family. Did you know alcohol puts holes in your Brian?
I work a 9to5 then workout then rideshare for a few hours in the evening ….. on the weekends I rideshare on Saturday and sunday is my one day to do errands and what not
I stay busy doing all the stuff that I said I was going to do when I was drunk.
it fucks up your whole body
Going to the movies is great, even if you're alone. Diving into a career change will also keep you busy (it does for me, I'm studying to become an accountant)
Using the Everything AA app
Get into a strong support group pray to your Is higher power who I choose to be God hang around the winners Be hungry for your sobriety And do the best you can to do the next right thing for you Be strong Brother you're not alone keep reaching out
Thanks for your messages. Yeah I’m doing very similar things to what you have all mentioned. Some times I just want to fast forward to a time when I am feeling good again and I have a few sober friends to hangout on evenings and weekends and do fun healthy things with. It’s just a process I guess and I just have to see it through one day at a time
I'm trying to fill the time I spent drinking with other things such as hobbies, reading, learning new skills or researching new things. I'm learning to quilt. One of the main things that helped me jn the beginning was starting a new position at work that required me to go in at 4am. There was no way I could drink and make it to work so I stopped drinking. From there, it was mostly building new habits and gaining new coping mechanisms. Instead of drinking on a hard day, I'll go and get a steak or something.
Thanks Amanda.
