The best way if it’s something you need to do is action. If it’s not something that is due by a deadline like free floating anxiety that is more common since the pandemic the use of exercise and and yoga or meditation or all three is an option worth the investment in time because it will give you additional energy and you can benefit from rest and healthy eating and hydrating by drinking water, we are 83% water and it’s all you need. Yea coffee and sodas have caffeine and you want just enough to help start the day. That brings us to the type of anxiety that’s associated with the psychological level. Sobriety is more than drinking cessation, it’s also a lifestyle change! It is learning to live sober and your brain building new and it can take two years to integrate all of that to automaticity levels that will come. I spent the first year I was sober constantly reminding myself this is not a sprint it’s a marathon and it seldom really had to be done “exposte fasto”. Time takes time and we can give ourselves patience and grace to let go of that compulsive constantly busyness by not only doing the things I listed above but also by looking at our self talk and the deeper level of self. Does this help me feel like I am making up for lost time because if it is aimed at that guilty thought it will not ever end it will become another addiction and it becomes our god instead of the God of our higher power. Addictions can go into many new addictions and even if they are alcohol or drugs they often can be self defeating like gambling and s e x (Lucid disallows that word) can become or shopping compulsive spending is for a new buzz of something new, I’m a big shot having money to burn. But if we take it all to God our sponsor and by working the steps we learn the insights we need by developing our ability to see truly and learn from our errors as we grow into our new life. That’s what living a day at a time means, we don’t have to be perfect by pretending that we’ve mastered it yet. Sometimes professionals are needed to deal with issues that the program doesn’t address and sometimes a simple underlying issue doesn’t become a bigger problem. Anxiety is aimed at the future and it the gap between the here and now and the there and that we are here to learn to fill with ourselves but we can’t do it alone. We can do it with God speaking through others and becoming more like our chronological age. But we start out at twenty if that’s when we began drinking. At chronological age fifty if that’s when we get sober we are the emotional age and coping skill of a twenty year old still. It took us thirty years to create this mess and it’s not going to disappear on our sobriety date. Anxiety is like fear at a low grade level but it a mixed message danger and a self survival opportunity to get out attention. I can’t but we can. Share you feelings of anxiety and the problem is halved. Take the mess to your sponsor and take their message to the group.

Try the ap. Headspace

Believe in yourself and the world will believe in you!! Houston Rockets.

Pet my dog, get sunshine, move my body. When all else fails, zone out to Netflix...

Exercise, fresh air, meditation.

Taking action helps me a lot. If you have a deadline, not procrastinating is huge for me. Stay structured and get into a routine; you can do anything you set your mind to.
If it’s generalized anxiety, take a hot shower and listen to music, watch Netflix/get into a new series, go for a walk, eat something comforting, meet a friend for dinner and a talk…anything to get you out of your head. Most times, the situation we create in our head is much worse than reality. Ground yourself by talking to others, they can often bring you back from that place and help you see the light. Hope this helps!

Many addicts use medical marijuana to help stay off of drugs or alcohol. I'm in a MAT program in a state where marijuana is illegal and my addiction specialist doctor and therapists still would actually rather me use marijuana for my panic disorder than something else. I get u/a'ed every month and they know that marijuana is part of my recovery and they support it. They just advise caution on how and where I get it because it is illegal here. Luckily, I'm still able to get medical grade.
It's definitely not for everyone, but I use MJ and still consider myself sober. Not everyone's recovery looks the same.

The opposite of drinking is not drinking... I used to fight it now I just let it flow through me it's so much easier it does go away in the beginning it takes a while but it will go away this is a promise and if it doesn't go to way God will help you deal with it

And then when you don't drink it's your responsibility to go talk to somebody about it and use your experience and tell somebody else how you did not drink

I'm gonna look into those, thank you for the recommendation!
